Welcome from the Athletic Director
The Nativity School has a long-standing history of a strong athletics program that I am proud to be a part of. Each year we offer a variety of team sports for our Pee Wee (Grades K-4) and Middle School (Grades 5-8) division. All student-athletes are expected to dedicate themselves to the pursuit of individual athletic excellence while maintaining good standing in both academic and behavioral policies. In addition to developing students’ athletic skills, coaches will focus on instilling the district’s core values and strong character. In the North County Parochial League’s (NCPL) Philosophy Statement, Pope Paul VI is quoted to say that sports contribute greatly to the development of the whole person. Ultimately at The Nativity School, where we have in our Mission Statement, “Where Hearts and Minds Grow Great and True”, we constantly strive for development in every single child that we educate. Our Athletic Department is an extension of The Nativity School’s commitment to child development as well as the NCPL’s insight to use sports as a tool for development, as we seek to cultivate not just athletic skills, but virtuous character, and lively spirits. At The Nativity School we are committed to the Play Like a Champion Today™ Educational Series, and especially its Sports As Ministry (SAM) program for coaches. Coaching is an opportunity for our volunteer parents to extend the lessons of character learned in the classroom onto the field in the form of sportsmanship. We also believe in the dignity of each child having the opportunity to play, and are committed to providing a program that allows kids ultimately to “Play” and have fun while focusing on development over wins and excessive specialization.
